I just sent out a volunteer inquire to the Methow Valley Community School in Eastern Washington. Four hours from the city in the heart of rolling hills, four distinct seasons and for me the best cloud watching around.
The plan is to give time when I'm in Twisp or Winthrop (Methow Valley News) visiting and to telecommute while in the urban. I'm hoping this will be the beginning of a long friendship!

The

Methow Valley

Community School, founded in 1999,
brings magical, meaningful, inspiring education to students.

23rd and Union is Seattle

THE CORNER IS 23RD AND UNION
Seattle's 23rd and Union

Twenty Third Avenue and East Union Street is a corner in Seattle's Central District, the city's historically African American neighborhood going through gentrification.
Gentrification has pushed out good people and small local business and it's sad. Take a tour, drive by the corner, enjoy the web site and radio commentary.
Twenty-Third and Union is a corner in flux. What's not visible here? How can listening and speaking to one another transform and deepen our experience of a place?
THE CORNER IS PUBLIC ART
An installation created by Handsome Murals will revitalize the empty lot on the southwest corner of 23rd and Union and invite neighbors to call the documentary's phone number.
The installation will feature stunning photographs by Inye Wokoma, of neighbors standing on the corner.
NKO of the Free Sheep Foundation has designed a series of monumental structures that feature larger-than-life prints of Inye's photos. These site-specific and improvisational works will be built from found materials with 'Scratchmaster' Joe Martinez of Handsome Murals, along with collaborators No Touching Ground and David Rauschenberg.
The Corner: 23rd and Union is made possible by Public Radio Maker's Quest 2.0, an initiative of AIR, the Association of Independents in Radio, with funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (http://www.mq2.org).

Valley of Neptune
the new Hendrix album was released today.
A special THANK YOU goes out to the firefighter who pushed my car out of an intersection and down a block into a service station yesterday.

More thanks go to the young man who shouted out his window helpful ideas on how to get my car started and the guys at the service station who stopped doing their work to take a look under my car's hood.

Le sigh.

Back to School Time: Tradition

Among the all American excitement of board games, bbq's and college football that I enjoyed this Labor Day weekend, I also participated in the long-standing and some what sentimental tradition of pulling out ones Fall and Winter clothes in preparation of the changing seasons.
Fall in the Pacific Northwest means knee-high socks, layering and oooh, scarves. And yes, lots of rain (don't move here).

I'm too excited for the smell of Fall and the changing of the trees... Now get your butts back to school and take responsibility for yourself says the President.

I did not put away my swim suits and short shorts this weekend... that idea depressed me too much.

new perspectives

These shots of Seattle were taken atop a construction site off the Stewart and Terry Streets this Spring. Thanks to the anonymous photographer for sharing.
Sleeping in to nurse a hangover stopped being fashionable about three years ago. Now I choose to wake up super early to water the garden before getting started with my day.

What could possibly be better than a beer festival? Not much, if you ask me, although this weekend’s Hop Scotch Festival does up the ante by adding Scotch. This spring beer and Scotch festival, held indoors at the Fremont Studios (155 N 35th) Friday and Saturday, May 8th and 9th, presents patrons with the opportunity to sample more than 50 seasonal beers, a variety of Scotches, and wine and tequila, too. Tickets purchased in advance through their website are $20, at the door they’re $25. Both include a souvenir cup and six tasting tokens; available upgrades include $5 for a flight of Mexican beers and $30 for a Scotch seminar with the Master of Whiskey which includes eight tastes of Scotch along with an excellent education.

The festival runs Friday from 5pm to midnight, Saturday from 1pm to midnight and helps raise funds for SIFF.
